Arachim was established in Israel in 1979. Arachim was established to provide an intellectual response to the thirst of a growing secular Israeli public who were seeking to understand the basic philosophical concepts of Judaism. Arachim addresses basic issues in Jewish philosophy including Science and Religion- Is there an internal contradiction? The authenticity of the Bible Practical Mitzvoth- are they relevant in modern society? and many more.
At the start, Arachim was comprised of just a handful of lecturers and organizational directors. Some of them came from purely academic backgrounds while others came from the traditional Yeshiva education- system. At the time, most of the activities consisted of home study sessions and one- day programs that stimulated people’s thought. As the demand increased, more concentrated learning programs were developed, soon to be known as Arachim Seminars. These were structured journeys into the logic and depth of Jewish philosophy.
Arachim has now been running for over two decades and has been arranging about fifty to a hundred seminars yearly through out the world. In America, where the largest concentration of Jews and Israelis are found, parallel seminars are arranged in both Hebrew and English and are given in two separate lecture rooms.
Recently, Arachim opened an office in New York with the mission of spreading Jewish awareness and information to the American Jewish people. The growing problem of loss of Jewish identity among youth and Jewish families puts the U.S.A in a position of top priority and urgency in this matter. We need programs to explain the relevance and beauty of Judaism to our people today.
With the help of donations and support from individual sponsors, our programs are made possible. Despite a very limited budget, we are committed to make this happen. The appreciation and feedback that we get from seminar participants remind and encourage us that programs like this must go on.
We hope and we pray that we will always be able to continue and to strengthen Jewish identity and Jewish pride among our people. Our thanks go to all of you who join us in taking part and supporting Jewish wareness in America today.
